Relocation Client Questionnaire & Professional Toolkit
Relocating clients are choosing more than a property. This free toolkit helps real estate professionals examine timing, income continuity, housing dependencies, destination familiarity and other considerations that may affect the household move.
Use the toolkit as a professional-led discussion guide, give the client an optional worksheet, or use selected components within your existing intake process. The toolkit is optional and is not required to use No Regrets Move.
Printable PDF and editable Word versions. No account required.

How the toolkit fits the work
Gather the information
The professional conducts the conversation and records the information. Client completion is available when appropriate but is not required.
Separate what is known from what requires work
Identify confirmed facts, working assumptions, dependencies and questions that may require independent verification or another qualified professional.
Determine appropriate next steps
Continue the housing process, gather additional information, make an appropriate referral or use a structured No Regrets Move assessment.
Why a standard buyer questionnaire may not be enough
A conventional buyer questionnaire remains useful for budget, financing, preferred location, property requirements and transaction timing. A relocation client questionnaire adds the broader household move: employment and income continuity, current-home or lease dependencies, temporary housing, purchasing power, commuting, taxes, moving costs, education or care transitions, support networks and destination familiarity.
These questions are discussion prompts, not a score. Use them to distinguish confirmed facts from assumptions, surface dependencies early and decide which items need independent verification. The same framework can support a relocation buyer questionnaire, a renter conversation or a professional-led relocation client intake.
Concise question preview
The proposed move
- What is prompting the move, and what outcome is the household trying to achieve?
- Which parts of the proposed move are confirmed, and which remain flexible?
- Is the initial housing approach to buy, rent, use temporary housing or remain undecided?
Timing, housing and financial transition
- What arrival, employment, lease or sale deadline affects the plan?
- Which income, employer assistance, housing-cost and moving-cost assumptions require validation?
- What could cause the client to delay, modify or reconsider the current plan?
Household continuity and destination familiarity
- Which client-identified education, healthcare, caregiving, accessibility, transportation or support arrangements require transition planning?
- Which objective assumptions about housing, commute, services or daily logistics remain unverified?
- Would renting first, visiting again or delaying a difficult-to-reverse commitment deserve consideration?
Do not record unnecessary sensitive personal information. Do not request diagnoses, protected-class information, demographic preferences or subjective community characterizations.

Fair Housing and professional-use notice
No Regrets Move provides educational decision-support tools and does not recommend particular neighborhoods or properties. Professionals remain responsible for complying with federal, state and local Fair Housing requirements, applicable professional standards, brokerage policies and other legal obligations. Apply objective criteria consistently, preserve client choice, and do not use protected characteristics—or proxies for protected characteristics—to direct a client toward or away from any community or housing opportunity. Provide factual information from appropriate sources and avoid personal opinions, subjective neighborhood characterizations and unsupported conclusions. This resource is not legal advice or a substitute for professional training, broker supervision or advice from qualified counsel.
Use client-identified geographic boundaries, maximum commute time, price range, housing type, requested accessibility features, distance to client-identified destinations and objective timing, financial and transportation constraints. When schools, crime or similar information is relevant, provide factual information from appropriate sources and avoid labels such as “good” or “safe.” See the HUD Fair Housing Act overview, NAR Fair Housing resources and NAR guidance regarding schools, crime and demographics.
Participation statements
At the end of the downloadable questionnaire, select one statement. These describe how information was prepared; they do not indicate client approval of a score, recommended stance, conclusions or a decision to move.

Common questions
Who should complete a relocation client questionnaire?
The preferred use is for the real estate professional to conduct the conversation and complete the questionnaire using information provided by, or reviewed with, the client. A client may complete the worksheet when appropriate, but client completion is optional.
What is included in the free relocation professional toolkit?
The toolkit includes a relocation client questionnaire, professional discussion guide, relocation dependency map, next-steps worksheet, Fair Housing and practice guardrails, and a quick-start guide. The questionnaire, discussion guide and worksheets are available as printable PDFs and editable Word files where noted.
Is the relocation questionnaire required to use No Regrets Move?
No. The free professional toolkit is optional and useful independently. It is not a prerequisite for a No Regrets Move assessment and is not inserted into the assessment workflow.
Does the free toolkit provide a relocation risk score?
No. The toolkit organizes questions, dependencies and next steps but does not include a score, risk band, destination calculations, Quick View or Blueprint. A paid No Regrets Move professional assessment provides those structured outputs.
Can this be used for a relocation buyer or renter?
Yes. The questions address the broader household move and can support conversations with clients who plan to buy, rent, use temporary housing or have not yet determined their initial housing approach.
Help clients evaluate the move—not just the home
The toolkit is useful on its own. When a household needs structured data, scoring and report outputs, explore the professional assessment options.
